Lise Temple has been painting South Australian landscapes for almost 20 years. Her paintings explore the experience of viewing place from changing viewpoints, through the passage of time, moving through degrees of abstraction. Her works for this show are lyrical abstract landscapes, developed through a collage process. Bold colour, generous application of impasto paint and lively brushwork feature throughout. Lise studied Fine Art, Science and Landscape Design at RMIT and UNE. She moved to rural South Australia in 2003 to consolidate her art practice. She is a frequent finalist in national art prizes including Hadleys Art Prize, Muswellbrook Art Prize, Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale and Whyalla Art Prizes. Lise has held numerous solo exhibitions and is represented by several interstate galleries.
Janelle's art practice is heavily informed by the energy of the natural rural environment surrounding her Barossa life, expressing a felt sense of connectivity & observation. Living & creating just over the hill from Wonderground Barossa on her family vineyard property in Seppeltsfield, awe and wonder is a daily occurrence as Janelle embraces the unpredictable nature of rural living. Seemingly insignificant synchronicities can be enough to spark a series of compositions in the studio.
Dynamic mark making and sweeping gestures are signatures of Janelle’s work, results of deep noticing, sensing and listening to the interconnectedness of ecology, environment and her inner-self. This sensitive eco-somatic approach invites a raw untamed freedom, play and discovery into her practice. Acrylics, graphite and pastels stir a lucid emotional resonance held in shape, line and colour, embodying a sense of both restoration and refreshing exhilaration.
Beryl’s art studio sits in the Wonderground neighbourhood, and she shares in the limitless inspiration that the natural beauty of this locale provides. Making art, in and about the landscape, creates a heightened sense of connection for Beryl. She is always striving to capture the wonder of a physical and spiritual interaction with the nature of a place and express the nuances of season, of flora, of fauna, and the diversity of the natural world, through her work. She is captivated by the simple beauty of landscape and the story to be experienced. A mixed media artist, Beryl will use paint, collage, pencil, ink, charcoal and found objects to make marks that mimic the organic and spontaneous nature of her subjects. Her favourite creative prompt? “I wonder ….”
Jane Skeer lives and works on Kaurna Land. She predominately works in sculpture and installation, creating works in response to her observations of people, objects and materiality. Skeer re-presents familiar ready-made objects imbued with their associated sensory/haptic memories, highlighting the vitality she sees in them. A physical process of assembling material en-masse allows her the time and space to inhabit, contemplate and work collaboratively with the material. Jane Skeer primarily works site specifically, building installations experientially that modify space and comment on our past histories. She is fascinated with materials that come from the landscape; they wear the landscape embedded in their surface. She finds herself constantly drawn to regional Australia, emotively responding to these lived experiences.
Very much a figurative artist, Renee’s works have been described as emotive. Renee’s daughters are her muse and create a common thread throughout her work, however, the often solitary figure is not a replication of her daughters but a vehicle which communicates numerous concepts including inner child, contemplation, society, belonging, isolation and stillness. Commencing each painting, Renee doesn’t have a specific agenda but rather finds they develop and mould to feelings and emotions surrounding her at the time. Each artwork urges the viewer to recognise, acknowledge and feel their own emotions in viewing her work.

Inspired by evocative sensual lines, Sally's work reflects her awe of changing light on the land. She feels a deep connection and sense of place at home in the Barossa Valley. By focusing her energy and emotion with each brush stroke, she conveys this depth of emotion with her audience.
Strong lines and marks made give Sally's artwork presence. A combination of bold colours and metallic tones gives each piece a changing quality when viewed from different angles, echoing the nuances of the landscape. Sally is empowered by the freedom and sense of play that the creative process brings her.
Kirsty works in acrylic, encaustic and mixed media. Her new works express a certain bright freedom of the Barossa in spring and are an expression of life's intimate integrity. She has been surprised and delighted how satisfying this process is, likening it to a meditative practice. This continues long after the painting is complete in a renewed awareness of each moment through colour, light and shape. Kirsty believes creating work from this place of integrity is not only nourishing for the artist, but also nourishing to the world around us.
